Bifacial solar panels have come a long way. Renogy's 100W N-Type Bifacial Solar Panel represents the very best of what compact off-grid solar technology has to offer — and we've spent weeks testing it in real UK conditions to bring you this honest review.
Right out of the box, the build quality is immediately apparent. The aluminium frame is rigid and well-finished, and the tempered glass front feels substantial without adding excess weight — the whole panel comes in at 5.43kg. Reinforced packaging meant ours arrived without a scratch, which isn't a given with panels this size.
With an IP68 rating on both the junction box and the solar connectors, this panel is genuinely built to sit outside year-round. We left it mounted through two weeks of heavy rain and it performed flawlessly throughout, with no water ingress at any of the sealed points.
The standout feature is the N-Type monocrystalline cell technology. Renogy rates these cells at up to 25% conversion efficiency, compared to 21–23% for the older P-Type cells found in most budget panels. We've tested both side by side — the N-Type panel consistently pulled in more usable charge across a full day, especially in the lower-angle winter sun.
Britain's weather is notoriously unpredictable, and that's exactly where the bifacial design earns its keep. Propped up over a light-coloured patio slab, we measured a clear boost over the rated 100W output on bright days — Renogy's own testing shows gains of up to 30% over snow, 20% over sand, 12% over concrete, and 10% over grass, and our results were broadly in line with that.
The cells are split into two independent power zones wired in parallel. When we deliberately shaded one half with a roof vent mock-up, the other half kept producing at close to full capacity instead of the whole panel's output collapsing — a genuinely useful feature for motorhome and van roof installs where obstructions are common.
Setup takes around 20 minutes, including finding the best angle and a suitably reflective surface underneath for the bifacial gain. At 865 x 578 x 30mm, it's compact enough for one person to handle and mount without help. No specialist tools are needed beyond a standard MC4 connector pairing.
The 100W N-Type Bifacial Solar Panel is the best compact bifacial panel we've reviewed at this price point. The N-Type efficiency, IP68 weatherproofing, shade-tolerant wiring, and genuine bifacial gains combine into a well-priced, dependable product. Whether for a motorhome roof, van conversion, or portable off-grid setup, this panel is a smart upgrade over a standard monofacial panel.
